Framing dimensions, electrical requirements, and installation specifications for all four Ignite Evolve sizes: 50", 60", 74", and 100".
About This Guide
Technical reference for contractors, designers, and buyers planning an Ignite Evolve installation
This guide covers the framing dimensions, electrical requirements, and installation specifications for the Dimplex Ignite Evolve Linear Electric Fireplace. It is a technical reference for the four available size variants: 50", 60", 74", and 100". All values are sourced from the Dimplex installation manual.
The Ignite Evolve is a recessed linear electric fireplace that installs into a framed wall opening. It supports two wall depths — a 2x4 partially recessed configuration and a 2x6 flush-mounted configuration — and is approved for both indoor and outdoor use in sheltered locations. All four size variants share the same framing height, framing depth, and electrical specifications. Only the framing width and viewing area width differ between models.
If you are deciding between the Ignite Evolve and another Dimplex linear series, the Ignite Evolve's distinguishing installation characteristics are its 3-1/2" minimum framing depth (compatible with a standard 2x4 partition wall), its four size options ranging from 50" to 100", and its outdoor-certified rating. For a full comparison of all Dimplex linear fireplaces, see the Dimplex Electric Fireplace Comparison Guide.

Installation Types
Two configurations are documented in the Dimplex installation manual
The Ignite Evolve supports two recessed wall configurations. The framing width and height of the rough opening are the same for both; only the required wall depth differs.
Partially Recessed — 2x4 Wall (3-1/2" depth)
The fireplace installs partially recessed into a standard 2x4 stud wall. The framing depth required is 3-1/2". Because the unit depth (5-3/4") exceeds the 2x4 framing depth, the front face of the fireplace will protrude from the finished wall surface. The optional XLFTRIM kit (sold separately, model number varies by size) is recommended for this configuration to accommodate the protruding portion.
Fully Flush-Mounted — 2x6 Wall (5-1/2" depth)
The fireplace installs fully flush with the finished wall surface in a 2x6 stud wall. The framing depth required is 5-1/2". The included trim can be used with drywall and tile finishes. For stone, brick, and other solid finish materials, the trim is not required — the unit installs directly against the face of the finish material.
⚠ Decorative Finish Overhang — Maximum 1/2"
Decorative finishing material (such as brick) must not overlap the firebox opening by more than 1/2" (13 mm). Exceeding this will restrict airflow from the firebox area. This fireplace is not load-bearing — the framing must be constructed so that the weight of surrounding building materials does not press on the top of the unit.
Wiring Entry Location
The wiring entry point is located on the right side at the bottom of the firebox, 11-3/4" from the bottom of the unit. Plan the framing to allow routing of the power cable to this location before the wall is closed.
Two-Person Installation
Two people are required for installation, as documented in the Dimplex installation manual.
Electrical Requirements
Identical across all four size variants — all dimensions from the Dimplex installation manual
The electrical specifications are the same for all four Ignite Evolve models. The unit supports both 120V and 240V operation. Heat output differs between the two configurations; framing dimensions do not change based on voltage selection.
| Configuration | Voltage | Wattage | BTU Output | Amperage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | 120 V | 1,500 W | 5,118 BTU | 12.5 A |
| High Output | 240 V | 2,500 W | 8,530 BTU | 10.4 A |
Hardwire Capable — 120V and 240V
The Ignite Evolve supports hardwire connection at both 120V and 240V. Breaker size is not specified in the installation manual — consult a qualified electrician for circuit planning. For outdoor installations, a ground-fault protected circuit is recommended.
The unit is cULus listed (file E71416) and meets UL-2021 and CSA C22.2 No. 46 standards. No venting or gas line is required.
Safety & Clearances
All requirements from the Dimplex installation manual
Clearances to Combustibles
Specific numeric clearance values for the top, sides, rear, and bottom of the unit are not printed in the installation manual documents provided. The installation manual instructs installers to follow the manufacturer's guidelines for minimum clearances to combustibles, walls, and finishes. Confirm the applicable clearance requirements in the full Dimplex Ignite Evolve owners manual before framing and finishing.
Television, Mantel, and Artwork Above the Fireplace
For any temperature-sensitive object mounted above the fireplace — including televisions, mantels, and artwork — follow the installation recommendations provided by that object's manufacturer for placement over a heater.
The Dimplex installation manual documents three temperature zones above the unit using a chart referenced as Figure 1:
- Areas subject to temperatures greater than 65°C (149°F)
- Areas subject to temperatures greater than 40°C (104°F)
- Areas subject to temperatures less than 40°C (104°F)
The zone a specific overhang falls into depends on the combination of overhang height (distance above the top of the unit) and overhang depth (horizontal projection). Consult Figure 1 in the Dimplex installation manual to determine the temperature zone for your specific configuration before mounting any temperature-sensitive object above the fireplace.
⚠ Not Load-Bearing
This fireplace is NOT load-bearing. The framing around the opening must be constructed so that the weight of the surrounding building materials — including stone, tile, or any other cladding — does not create pressure on the top of the fireplace.
Outdoor Installation
Approved for sheltered outdoor locations — all requirements from the Dimplex installation manual
The Ignite Evolve is certified for installation in outdoor areas that are sheltered by an overhead structure protecting against direct water ingress. Installation on a ground-fault protected circuit is recommended. All electrical connections must comply with local building code requirements.
Required Overhead Coverage
To maintain warranty coverage, the overhead structure must meet this rule: the maximum height from the bottom of the fireplace to the underside of the overhead structure must be no greater than three times the horizontal projection length of that structure.
- Maximum height is measured vertically from the bottom of the fireplace to the bottom edge of the overhang
- Projection length is measured from the exposed face of the fireplace to the parallel edge of the overhang
- The overhang must clear at least 24" above the bottom of the fireplace and project at least 5" from the face of the unit
Example from the installation manual: if the overhang is 9 feet above the bottom of the fireplace, it must extend at least 3 feet outward on all sides.
Outdoor Warranty
Indoor installations carry a 5-year limited warranty. Outdoor installations carry a 1-year limited warranty. Failure to meet the overhang coverage rule voids the outdoor warranty coverage.

What framing depth does the Dimplex Ignite Evolve require?
The Ignite Evolve can be installed in two ways: partially recessed into a 2x4 wall, which requires a minimum framing depth of 3-1/2", or fully flush-mounted into a 2x6 wall, which requires a framing depth of 5-1/2". The rough opening height is 16" for all four size variants. For 2x4 installations, the optional XLFTRIM kit (sold separately, model number varies by size) is recommended to accommodate the portion of the unit that protrudes from the wall.
What rough opening width does each Ignite Evolve size require?
Each size variant requires its own rough opening width: the 50" model requires 50-5/8" wide; the 60" model requires 60-5/8" wide; the 74" model requires 74-5/8" wide; the 100" model requires 100-5/8" wide. The framing height is 16" for all four models.
Can the Dimplex Ignite Evolve be installed outdoors?
Yes. The Ignite Evolve is approved for outdoor installation in sheltered areas protected from direct water ingress by an overhead structure. The overhang must meet a documented coverage rule: the maximum height from the bottom of the fireplace to the underside of the overhang must be no greater than three times the horizontal projection length of that overhang. Installation on a ground-fault protected circuit is recommended for outdoor use. Outdoor installations carry a 1-year limited warranty; indoor installations carry a 5-year limited warranty.
What electrical supply does the Dimplex Ignite Evolve require?
The Ignite Evolve supports both 120V and 240V operation. At 120V it draws 1,500 watts and 12.5 amps. At 240V it draws 2,500 watts and 10.4 amps. These electrical specifications are identical across all four size variants. The unit supports hardwire connection at both voltages. Breaker size is not specified in the installation manual — consult a qualified electrician for circuit planning.
Can the Ignite Evolve be installed without trim on stone or brick?
Yes. The Ignite Evolve installs without trim directly against stone, brick, and other solid finish materials. The included trim kit is intended for drywall and tile surfaces. When using any decorative finishing material, it must not overlap the firebox opening by more than 1/2" (13 mm) to ensure adequate airflow. The fireplace is not load-bearing — the framing must be constructed so that the weight of surrounding building materials does not press on the top of the unit.
