Contact usAre fiberglass planters durable?
Very. Fiberglass does not rot or rust, and because it is non-porous it does not absorb the water that cracks terracotta and unsealed concrete in a freeze. It is also a fraction of the weight of stone, so even large pieces stay movable. The colour is a painted finish, so treat it the way you would a car: it takes weather and a wash without trouble, but not bleach, abrasives or a pressure washer.
Will my planter crack in winter?
Fiberglass is non-porous, so it does not soak up the water that expands on freezing the way ceramic, terracotta and cheap resin do. Ceramic and concrete are the most likely to crack, because they absorb that water. With any planter, drainage is what matters most, so water never pools and freezes inside.
What makes a planter non-porous?
Two things. First, a material that does not soak up water and expand when it freezes, like fiberglass and quality composite. Second, proper drainage so water escapes instead of turning to ice inside the wall. Porous materials like terracotta and unsealed concrete crack precisely because they absorb that water.
Do these planters come with drainage holes?
Not by default. Both brands ship undrilled, because a planter used indoors should not have holes in it. Jay Scotts will drill yours before shipping at no charge if you ask when you order, to their own guidance of one to two inch holes roughly every twelve inches of planter. Drilling cannot be undone, so a drilled planter is final sale. You can also drill them yourself with a standard bit, but holes cut outside the manufacturer's guidance are not covered by warranty. Indoors, most people skip the holes and sit a nursery pot or a liner inside the planter instead.
What size planter do I need?
A useful rule of thumb is a planter two to four inches wider than the plant's current pot, and a size up for trees and fast growers. Every product page lists exterior dimensions and, for almost every size, the interior opening, so you can plan against your space before you buy.
How many finish colors can I choose from?
It depends on the brand. Jay Scotts shapes come in up to 20 finishes across matte, gloss, satin and metallic, from bright white to deep charcoal to bold accent colors, and each planter is painted to order in the colour you pick. Cosapots shapes come in up to six stone-textured finishes and ship from stock. Every product page shows the exact finishes available for that shape.
How do large planters ship?
Most sizes ship free by ground within the contiguous 48 states, usually 2 to 7 business days in transit. Oversized planters ship on a pallet by freight for a flat $395, free on orders over $2,000; the driver lowers it to the curb with a liftgate and the carrier calls to schedule a window. Jay Scotts planters are finished to order, so allow 5 to 10 business days of production before shipping, while Cosapots ships from stock in 1 to 3. Every product page states which method applies to that size.
What's your return policy?
If a planter arrives damaged, note it on the delivery receipt at the time of delivery, then report it to us in writing within 2 business days and keep all boxes and packing material. Return windows differ by brand. Jay Scotts planters can be returned within 14 days of delivery, refunded as Serene Yards store credit; Cosapots planters within 30 days of delivery, refunded to your original payment method. All returns need a Return Authorization number first, must be unused and in the original packaging, and carry a 30% restocking fee. Original shipping charges are non-refundable and you arrange return shipping. Freight orders are final sale except where the planter arrives damaged or defective. Planters with drainage holes added, custom orders and clearance items are final sale. See our Return & Refund Policy for full details.
Can I use a planter indoors without drainage holes?
Yes, and indoors that is the normal way to do it. Both brands ship undrilled, and Jay Scotts specifically advise against holes for indoor use. Keep the plant in its nursery pot or a plastic liner, sit that inside the planter, and raise it slightly off the base so the roots never stand in water. Pour off whatever collects after watering. If the planter is going outdoors instead, ask us before you order and Jay Scotts will drill it at no charge.
