Saigon Tapered Round Planter in Gloss Red

Red Planters

(57 products)

Gloss Red is the most assertive finish we offer. It is a deep, reflective red sprayed as an automotive-grade paint system, which is the same reason a red car still looks red after ten summers while red plastic does not. It is sprayed onto a fiberglass shell and available across the range, hand-finished to order.

Red, and where it actually belongs

Red is a color with a job. It marks an entrance, signals a threshold, or carries a brand into a space where signage would be too literal. It is used in hospitality and retail far more than in gardens, and that is a fair guide to where it works.

Red is also the color that punishes a cheap finish hardest, because a saturated pigment has the furthest to fade. Jay Scotts note that plastic can “fade, morph, and crack in extreme temperatures” over time. The finish here is an automotive-grade, UV-resistant paint system on a non-porous shell, a coating designed for sun rather than a dye trying to survive it.

Practically: one red planter reads as intent, and several read as a scheme you have to commit to. Against grey stone, dark brick or glass it holds up. Against warm brick or terracotta paving it tends to fight. Related: patio planters, indoor planters and round planters.

Frequently asked questions

Will a red planter fade outdoors?

Red has the most to lose to UV, which is why the finish matters. This is an automotive-grade, UV-resistant paint system rather than pigment in plastic — Jay Scotts note plastic can “fade, morph, and crack in extreme temperatures.” We do not publish a fade rating because the manufacturer does not test to one.

Is the red gloss or matte?

Gloss. Red is offered in a reflective finish, which holds the color's depth and gives it an edge highlight in sun. It shows fingerprints and water spotting more than a matte would, so it wants an occasional wipe if it sits somewhere people brush past it.

What can I plant in a red planter?

Keep the planting simple. Green architectural foliage, clipped forms, or a single specimen. Red flowering against a red planter cancels itself out, and busy mixed planting competes with the container instead of sitting in it.

Can I get red in a large size?

Yes. Gloss Red is offered across the range rather than on small pots only, including troughs over six feet. Each one is sprayed to order in the color you choose, which is why it takes a few days rather than shipping from stock.
