Dimplex IgniteXL Electric Fireplace Size Guide: 50"-100"

Compare 50", 60", 74", and 100" IgniteXL models to confirm framed opening (cutout), 2x6 flush vs 2x4 + trim kit options, viewing area, recommended mounting height, and 120V/240V electrical planning before you buy.

How to measure (60 seconds)

  • Confirm wall type: IgniteXL is designed to recess into a wall. A 2×6 wall allows a flush look; a 2×4 wall will protrude and typically uses a trim kit (XLFTRIM) to finish edges.
  • Opening width & height: frame to the Cutout (min.) values for your size in the fit table.
  • Mounting height: for best flame viewing, Dimplex recommends the bottom of the unit between 5" and 40" above the floor.
  • Ceiling / top spacing: keep the top of the fireplace at least 24" below the ceiling.
  • Power plan: plan 120V (standard) or 240V (higher heat output). Confirm breaker/wire sizing with a qualified electrician.
Outdoor note (sheltered only)
IgniteXL may be used outdoors only when protected by an overhang that prevents direct rain/snow and keeps the unit at least 3 ft from the overhang edge. Use a GFCI-protected circuit for outdoor installations.

Fit requirements table (hard constraints)

Use the Cutout (min.) width/height as the framing source of truth. Depth depends on your wall build: 2×6 flush (stud depth 5 1/2") vs 2×4 partial recess (stud depth 3 1/2" + trim kit recommended).
Size Model (SKU) Viewing area (W×H) Fireplace face (W×H×D) Framed opening / cutout (W×H×Depth) Heat (120V) Heat (240V) Power planning Link
50" XLF50 48 3/4" W × 11 3/4" H 50 1/8" W × 16 1/2" H × 5 3/4" D
With trim: 51 1/2" W (approx.)
Cutout (min.): 50 5/8" W × 16" H × (2×6: 5 1/2" | 2×4: 3 1/2")
2×4 installs typically use trim kit (XLFTRIM) for a clean finish.
120V (standard residential) 240V (higher heat output) Choose 120V or 240V during planning.
Confirm breaker and wire sizing with a qualified electrician. Outdoor installs: GFCI recommended.

Installation type selector

Choose your wall build to see the right depth/finish guidance.
2×6: clean recessed “edgeless” look
A 2×6 wall (5 1/2" stud depth) is the preferred path for the most seamless installation. Frame to the cutout width/height, recess the unit, and finish your wall surface to achieve an integrated look.
Viewing angle optimization
For best flame visibility, mount the bottom of the unit between 5" and 40" above the floor, and keep the top at least 24" below the ceiling.
Electrical: plan 120V or 240V during rough-in. Confirm breaker/wire sizing with a qualified electrician.
2×4: partial recess + trim kit for a finished edge
In a 2×4 wall (3 1/2" stud depth), the fireplace body is deeper than the cavity, so it will protrude. A trim kit (XLFTRIM) is commonly used to cover the gap and create a clean border.
Planning tip
Decide early if you will use a trim kit and confirm the final face width (with trim) for your finish layout (tile, drywall returns, or panels).
Electrical: plan 120V or 240V during rough-in. Outdoor installs: sheltered only + GFCI recommended.
