Why built-in

Built-in pizza ovens integrate into an outdoor kitchen counter as part of the cooking footprint. The oven sits flush with the counter, gas service connects through the cabinet below, and the look matches the grill, prep counter, and refrigeration that make up the rest of the outdoor kitchen. Built-in is the right choice when you are committing to a permanent outdoor kitchen layout.

Outdoor kitchen integration

Built-in pizza oven installation requires a non-combustible counter (concrete, stone, or specified outdoor kitchen frame system) with a cutout sized per the oven manufacturer's specifications. The Fire Magic Built-In Pizza Oven and the HPC Forno (Villa Series built-in configuration) both require specific counter dimensions and clearances; consult the owner's manual for the exact cutout. The HPC Forno EI Series (cart version, which we carry) can also be removed from the cart and set into a counter as a built-in.

Clearances

Built-in pizza ovens require minimum clearances to combustible materials per the manual. The HPC Forno: minimum 24 inches from all sides to combustible construction; minimum 36 inches from the topmost part of the oven opening to any combustible material immediately above (including roof overhang or soffit). Outdoor use only in a well-ventilated area. Never in any enclosed space due to carbon monoxide hazard.

Gas line requirements

Built-in installation typically requires a permanent gas line stub to the cabinet. Natural gas pressure: 3.5 to 7.0 inches W.C. (HPC Forno). LP gas pressure: 8.0 to 11.0 inches W.C. A shut-off valve is required between the house and the oven. Gas line sizing depends on run length. Professional installation by an installer licensed in gas piping is required.

FAQ

How much does it cost to install a built-in pizza oven? Varies by site. The oven, counter cutout, gas line installation, and any chimney or venting required all factor in. Professional gas line installation by a licensed installer typically adds several hundred to a few thousand dollars depending on run length and local rates.

Can a built-in pizza oven be used outdoors? These models are designed for outdoor use only. Never use a built-in pizza oven in an enclosed space due to carbon monoxide hazard.

What is the difference between built-in and countertop pizza ovens? Built-in installs into a permanent counter cutout with permanent gas service; countertop sits on the counter and may use a propane cylinder. Built-in is the integrated outdoor kitchen pick; countertop offers more flexibility.

Do built-in pizza ovens need a chimney? Some models include a chimney stack; others vent through the front. The HPC Forno requires combustible-clearance dimensions above the oven opening for venting combustion products. Check each model's manual.
