Revillusion Fireplaces
(1 products)Revillusion® is Dimplex's patented 3D flame technology — a partially frosted Reflective Flame Panel combined with Realogs® produces flames that appear to emerge from within the log set rather than project from a back wall, creating visible depth at close viewing distances. The Revillusion® built-in firebox installs into a framed opening or directly into an existing masonry or factory-built fireplace, covering sizes from 24 to 42 inches in both standard and portrait configurations. No gas line, no venting, and no combustion required — just a dedicated 120V circuit.

How Revillusion® Creates a Three-Dimensional Flame
Standard LED electric fireplaces project a flat flame image onto a back panel, which appears one-dimensional at close range. Revillusion® works differently. A partially frosted acrylic Reflective Flame Panel sits within the firebox alongside Realogs® — a physical log set — and scatters light in a way that makes flames appear to originate from within the logs rather than against a flat surface. The full-brick interior behind the logs adds the visual context of a traditional wood-burning firebox; the Weathered Concrete interior is available on DLX-suffix models for a more contemporary finish. The difference from standard LED inserts is most apparent when viewing the fire at normal sitting distance in a room with ambient lighting, where the depth of the Revillusion® effect holds up in a way flat-panel systems do not.
Converting a Gas or Wood Fireplace to Revillusion®
Replacing an existing gas or wood firebox is the most common installation scenario for the Revillusion® built-in. Zero-clearance rated, it drops directly into an existing masonry or factory-built fireplace opening without standoffs or air gaps to combustible framing. The opening dimensions of the existing firebox determine which model fits: the Dimplex Revillusion 30-inch model suits most standard residential gas fireplace openings; the 36-inch covers mid-range openings; the 42-inch is for larger masonry fireboxes. For new construction, any model works provided approximately 12 inches of cavity depth is available. A licensed electrician is typically needed to run a dedicated 120V circuit to the firebox location if one does not already exist. No flue modifications are required — Revillusion® produces no combustion gases. Browse our Convert Fireplace to Electric collection to compare all compatible built-in formats.
Sizes, Interiors, and the Portrait Format
Revillusion® built-in fireboxes are available in four landscape models — 24, 30, 36, and 42 inches wide — and a Portrait configuration at 36 inches. The Portrait model is taller than it is wide, suited for narrow chimney breast openings or applications where a vertical focal point is preferred over a horizontal one. Interior finishes vary by model: the standard full-brick interior is available across the full size range; the Weathered Concrete finish is available on DLX-suffix models. All models produce 5,118 BTU at 120V — supplemental zone heating for the immediate area. The Revillusion® range sits within the broader built-in electric fireplaces category, alongside the Dimplex BF Series and other traditional firebox formats if a different flame technology is preferred.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Revillusion® flame differ from a standard LED electric fireplace?
Standard LED electric fireplaces project a flat flame image onto a back panel, which reads as one-dimensional at close range. Revillusion® uses a frosted Reflective Flame Panel and physical Realogs® to scatter light within the firebox, making flames appear to originate from within the logs. The result is a perceptibly deeper flame that holds up at normal viewing distances in the way flat-panel LED systems generally do not.
Can the Revillusion® fit into an existing gas fireplace opening?
The Revillusion® built-in firebox is zero-clearance rated and designed to drop into existing masonry or factory-built fireplace openings. The 30-inch model fits most standard residential gas fireplace openings; the 36-inch and 42-inch suit larger or custom openings. The gas supply line needs to be capped by a plumber, and a dedicated 120V electrical circuit is required at the firebox location. No exhaust flue modifications are needed — Revillusion® produces no combustion gases.
Which size Revillusion® should I choose?
Measure your existing opening width before selecting. The 30-inch model fits most standard prefabricated gas and wood fireplaces common in homes built after 1980. The 36-inch suits mid-size masonry and custom openings. The 42-inch is for larger masonry fireboxes or new-construction openings where a wider viewing area is the priority. The Portrait model is a vertical 36-inch option for narrow openings where a taller configuration suits the architecture better than a wide one.
Does the Revillusion® produce enough heat?
The Revillusion® built-in firebox produces 5,118 BTU on a standard 120V circuit — adequate for supplemental zone heating in the area immediately around the fireplace. It is not a primary heating source. The flame operates independently of the heater and can run year-round in flame-only mode without producing heat, which is useful in warm seasons or when used primarily for ambiance.
What is the difference between Revillusion® and Opti-Myst®?
Revillusion® creates its 3D effect using a Reflective Flame Panel and Realogs® — it is LED-based, requires no water, and produces no mist. Opti-Myst® uses ultrasonic water vapor to create a genuine mist-and-flame effect visible from all angles. Both technologies sit well above standard LED fireplaces for flame realism; Revillusion® is lower maintenance and requires no water reservoir, while Opti-Myst® produces a more physically immersive flame effect. Browse the Opti-Myst® vapor fireplaces collection if water vapor technology is preferable.
