Broilmaster B Series Stainless Gas Grill Size Guide: 25"–40"
Cutout dimensions, clearances, gas connection, and island planning for the Broilmaster B Series Stainless built-in gas grill — BSB253 (25"), BSB324 (32"), and BSB405 (40").
Same height and depth across all sizes. 8½″ cutout height × 20½″ cutout depth on BSB324 and BSB405. Only the width changes by size — 31″ for the 32-inch, 38″ for the 40-inch.
Minimum clearances: 16″ to sides, 18″ to rear, both measured to any combustible material. Cannot be installed under combustible overhead — no carports, covered porches, awnings, or overhangs.
No electrical and no battery required. B Series uses the Push & Turn Flame Thrower ignition — no AA battery, no 120V outlet. The B Series is the only Broilmaster grill series with no power dependency at all.
Natural gas inlet pressure: 7.0″ WC. BSB405 peak demand is 85,000 BTU/hr (5 main + rotisserie); BSB324 peak demand is 70,000 BTU/hr. Size the gas supply line for peak demand plus any shared appliances.
BSB253 (25") cutout dimensions are not in the current spec PDF. Confirm with the dealer or Broilmaster before island framing for the 25-inch — current literature covers BSB324 and BSB405 only.
Optional built-in sleeve adds tolerance. Broilmaster sells a stainless steel built-in sleeve as an accessory; sleeve cutouts are slightly larger than head cutouts to accommodate insulation around combustible framing.
How to Measure Your Opening
Three dimensions matter — width, depth, height — plus the surrounding clearance envelope
Before you commit to a B Series size, measure the opening you have to work with — or, if you're framing a new island, the opening you intend to build. Three dimensions decide whether a Broilmaster B Series will fit:
- Width. Measured side-to-side along the front face of the island. The grill head drops in from above. The cutout width must match the head: 31″ for BSB324, 38″ for BSB405. (BSB253 — confirm separately, see callout below.)
- Depth. Measured front-to-back from the inside of the front island wall to the inside of the back wall. The cutout depth is 20½″ on both BSB324 and BSB405 — the same head depth applies regardless of width.
- Height (drop). Measured top-of-counter down to the bottom of the island enclosure. The cutout height is 8½″ on both BSB324 and BSB405 — this is the depth of the head body that hangs into the island below the counter line.
Beyond the cutout itself, also confirm the clearance envelope around the island: a minimum of 16″ from each side of the grill to any combustible material (such as a wood-frame wall, fence, patio furniture, or the wall of the home), 18″ from the back of the grill to any combustible material, and zero combustible overhead (no covered porch, no awning, no carport, no overhang). The Clearances section below lists these in full.
Use the cutout dimension, not the overall head dimension
The grill head's overall outside footprint is larger than its cutout — the head has a flange that rests on the counter surface above the cutout. Always size the rough opening to the published cutout dimensions, not to the overall head dimensions, otherwise the head will fall through.
Cutout Dimensions
Exact rough-opening sizes by model
Cutout dimensions for the B Series Stainless head:
| Model | Width (size) | Cutout height | Cutout depth | Cutout width |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BSB253 | 25″ 2-burner | — | — | — |
| BSB324 | 32″ 4-burner | 8-1/2″ | 20-1/2″ | 31″ |
| BSB405 | 40″ 5-burner | 8-1/2″ | 20-1/2″ | 38″ |
Built-in sleeve (optional accessory)
Broilmaster sells a stainless steel built-in sleeve as an optional accessory. The sleeve sits inside the rough opening and protects combustible framing from the grill heat. Sleeve cutouts are slightly larger than the bare-head cutouts because the sleeve adds wall thickness on each side. From the BR0227 spec sheet:
| Model | Sleeve height (A) | Sleeve depth (B) | Sleeve width (C) | Side wall (D) | Front overhang (E) | Sleeve outside width (F) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| BSB324 | 8-3/8″ | 20-11/16″ | 31-3/16″ | 2-3/16″ | 2-3/16″ | 33-1/16″ |
| BSB405 | 8-3/8″ | 20-11/16″ | 38-7/16″ | 2-3/16″ | 2-3/16″ | 40-5/16″ |
BSB253 (25") spec sheet not in current Broilmaster literature
The current Broilmaster BSB-series spec PDF (BR0227) covers BSB324 and BSB405 only. BSB253 cutout, sleeve dimensions, and per-burner BTU are not in the spec sheet we have on hand. If you are framing a 25-inch BSB253 cutout, contact the dealer or Broilmaster directly for verified dimensions before committing to the rough opening.
Clearance Requirements
Minimum distances from the grill body to any combustible material
Per Broilmaster's installation requirements, the grill must maintain the following minimum clearances from the body of the grill to any combustible material:
Combustible materials include — but are not limited to — wood-frame walls, fences, patio furniture, the wall of the home, vinyl siding, wood decking, and any covered overhead structure. Stone, masonry, concrete, and properly rated stainless steel are not combustible.
The grill cannot be installed or operated under any combustible overhead structure. This includes carports, covered porches, awnings, or overhangs. A clear vertical air column above the grill is required for combustion-product ventilation.
Outdoor use only
The Broilmaster B Series is for outdoor use only. Never install or operate the grill in any building, garage, recreational vehicle, boat, or other enclosed area. The grill produces carbon monoxide; using it indoors can be fatal. The grill should not be installed where gasoline or other flammable materials are stored.
Gas Connection
Natural gas pressure, propane setup, BTU demand, and line sizing
Natural gas (NG)
Per the Broilmaster owner's manual, the natural gas inlet pressure at the grill should be set to 7.0 inches water column (7.0″ WC). Connect via the NG hose and quick-disconnect kit available from the dealer; built-in installations should run a hard-piped supply with a manual shutoff valve isolated from the grill before any leak test.
Total natural gas BTU demand by model (peak):
- BSB253 (25″, 2-burner): demand not in current literature; contact dealer to verify before line sizing.
- BSB324 (32″, 4-burner): 4 × 14,000 BTU main = 56,000 BTU/hr + 14,000 BTU rear rotisserie = 70,000 BTU/hr peak.
- BSB405 (40″, 5-burner): 5 × 14,000 BTU main = 70,000 BTU/hr + 15,000 BTU rear rotisserie = 85,000 BTU/hr peak.
Size the supply line based on the peak demand of the grill plus any other appliances drawing from the same supply (range, water heater, dryer, fire feature). Consult a licensed gas plumber for the appropriate pipe diameter and length.
Propane (LP)
The B Series propane configuration uses a 20-pound LP cylinder secured in the cart's cylinder bracket (for cart-mounted setups) or in a code-compliant cylinder enclosure (for built-in setups). Propane regulator and hose assembly is supplied with the grill. Per the manual, do not use a propane gas cylinder with a capacity greater than 20 pounds with this grill.
If the grill is installed in an island enclosure with a propane cylinder, the enclosure must include vent register openings — Broilmaster sells a Vent Register Kit as a stainless steel built-in component. The cylinder must be arranged upright for vapor withdrawal, and the enclosure must remain free of obstructions to combustion-air ventilation.
Pressure testing
The grill and its individual shutoff valve must be disconnected from the gas supply piping system during any system pressure testing at test pressures in excess of 1/2 PSIG. The grill must be isolated from the gas supply piping system by closing its individual manual shutoff valve during any pressure testing of the gas supply piping system at test pressures equal to or less than 1/2 PSIG.
Island Planning Notes
Framing materials, access panel, ventilation, and weight
Framing materials
The 16-inch side and 18-inch rear clearances apply to combustible framing. If you build the island with non-combustible framing — masonry block, concrete, prefabricated stainless steel — these clearances do not apply to the framing itself, but the surrounding combustibles around the island still need the same envelope. Most prefab outdoor kitchen islands are designed to non-combustible specs from the supplier.
If the island is wood-frame construction with a non-combustible facing, the grill still needs its 16/18 clearance envelope to the wood framing inside. The optional Broilmaster stainless steel built-in sleeve provides one layer of protection but does not replace the clearance requirement.
Access panel
If the propane configuration is being used in a built-in island, plan for a code-compliant access door for cylinder swap-out. The Broilmaster Door Kit is the matching stainless steel access panel; it carries the Limited Lifetime warranty against rust-through alongside the rest of the stainless built-in components. The access door should open with the cylinder upright and accessible without the user reaching into the heat zone behind the grill.
Ventilation register requirements
For propane installations inside an island enclosure, vent register openings are required at the bottom and top of the enclosure — the bottom vent allows propane (which is heavier than air) to escape if a leak occurs, and the top vent allows combustion air to circulate. The Broilmaster Vent Register Kit is the stainless steel matching-pair register accessory for the BSB-series built-in configuration.
Weight
The B Series Stainless head is 304 stainless steel construction (or 316 marine-grade on the MG variants). Exact dry shipping weights are not in the BR0227 spec sheet; expect a freight class shipment with palletized delivery. Plan island countertop support around granite/quartz/concrete typical loading — the grill head weight is well within standard outdoor-kitchen counter capacity but the rough opening reduces effective span, so consider counter overhang and unsupported edges around the cutout.
FAQ
Top installation questions for the Broilmaster B Series Stainless
What are the cutout dimensions for the Broilmaster B Series Stainless gas grill?
BSB324 (32-inch 4-burner): 8-1/2″ high × 20-1/2″ deep × 31″ wide. BSB405 (40-inch 5-burner): 8-1/2″ high × 20-1/2″ deep × 38″ wide. Both share the same height and depth — only width differs by size. BSB253 (25-inch 2-burner) cutout dimensions are not in the current Broilmaster published spec sheet (BR0227); confirm directly with the dealer or Broilmaster before island framing for the 25-inch.
What clearances does a Broilmaster built-in grill require?
Per Broilmaster installation requirements, a minimum clearance of 16 inches is required from the sides of the grill to any combustible material, and a minimum clearance of 18 inches is required from the back of the grill to any combustible material. The grill cannot be installed under combustible overhead materials such as carports, covered porches, awnings, or overhangs. Combustible materials include walls, fences, patio furniture, and the wall of the home.
What gas pressure does the Broilmaster B Series need for natural gas?
Per the Broilmaster owner's manual, the natural gas inlet pressure at the grill should be set to 7.0 inches water column. Total natural gas demand for a built-in BSB405 (40-inch 5-burner) is 85,000 BTU/hr at peak (5 × 14,000 BTU main + 15,000 BTU rear rotisserie). The BSB324 (32-inch 4-burner) demands 70,000 BTU/hr at peak (4 × 14,000 BTU main + 14,000 BTU rotisserie). Size the gas line for the peak BTU plus any other appliances on the same supply.
Do I need an electrical outlet for a Broilmaster B Series grill?
No. The B Series uses Push & Turn Flame Thrower ignition with no battery and no electrical connection required. The only Broilmaster grill series that requires AA batteries is the Premium and Super Premium (1× AA alkaline for the Electric Ignitor — see the Broilmaster grill comparison guide for the full ignition breakdown). The B Series does not require a 120V outlet or a battery for the ignition system. If you add an optional electrical accessory like a rotisserie motor, that accessory has its own electrical requirement separate from the grill.
