Modern Flames Orion Slim Size Guide: 52"–100"
Framing dimensions, electrical requirements, and clearance specifications for all four Orion Slim models — sourced from the Modern Flames installation manual.
Overview
Models OR52-SLIM through OR100-SLIM — key planning facts
The Orion Slim is available in four sizes: 52", 60", 76", and 100". All four models share a uniform overall height of 19-5/8" and overall depth of 6-5/16", and a uniform minimum framing depth of 6". Only width varies between sizes. All models operate on 120V only — no 240V option is available.
This guide documents the framing dimensions, electrical requirements, and clearances from the Modern Flames Orion Slim installation manual. All dimensions are stated in inches with millimeter equivalents as documented. For purchasing information, see the Orion Slim product page.
Not doing your own framing?
Send this page to your installer — they will know exactly how to use it. The key numbers they need: minimum wall depth is 6", the framing height is 19-1/8" for all four sizes, and a dedicated 20-amp circuit is required. Everything else on this page is for them.
6" minimum framing depth — all four models
The Orion Slim's 6" minimum framing depth is shallower than most linear fireplaces. A standard 2×6 framed wall (5-1/2" stud depth + drywall) may not meet this requirement — verify actual available cavity depth before ordering.
Installation Types
Three installation types supported per the installation manual
The Orion Slim supports three installation types, as stated in the installation manual: "Your appliance is a wall-mounted, recessed, and/or mantel installed appliance."
- Wall Recessed (Slide-In): The unit slides into a framed wall opening. Requires a finished opening sized to the model-specific framing dimensions in this guide. This is the standard built-in configuration.
- Wall Mounted (Surface): The unit mounts to the wall surface via the included bracket. Does not require recessing into the wall. The bracket must secure to a minimum of 2 studs.
- Mantel Installation: Explicitly stated as supported in the installation manual. Specific mantel installation procedures are not detailed separately — follow manufacturer instructions.
⚠️ Freestanding Installation Prohibited
The installation manual states: "ALWAYS mount to wall bracket before use. DO NOT set on the floor, or other surface, to use." The Orion Slim must always be secured to a wall bracket — it cannot be used freestanding.
