SimpliFire Scion Trinity Size & Dimensions Guide
Framing dimensions, clearances, electrical requirements, and installation types for the Scion Trinity 43″ and 55″ — models SF-SCT43-BK and SF-SCT55-BK.
Overview
What to know before you frame
The SimpliFire Scion Trinity is available in two sizes — 43″ and 55″ — and can be installed in six configurations: single-sided built-in, 3-sided bay built-in, 2-sided right corner built-in, 2-sided left corner built-in, wall mount with optional wall mount kit, and wall mount with optional floating mantel kit.
The framing opening dimensions are the same regardless of configuration. Configuration is determined by trim selection and how the side cover plates are handled — not by a different rough opening size. A contractor can frame the same opening for single-sided or 3-sided use.

Framing Dimensions
All dimensions from the SimpliFire installation manual
One framing opening for all configurations
The framing rough-in dimensions are identical whether you are installing single-sided, 2-sided corner, or 3-sided bay. The configuration is determined by trim selection after framing — not by a different opening size. Framing dimensions must be adjusted for the thickness of any chase interior wall sheathing, if applicable.

Viewing Area
All dimensions from the SimpliFire installation manual
| Model | Viewing Width | Viewing Height |
|---|---|---|
| SF-SCT43-BK (43″) | 42-1/2″ [1080mm] | 14-3/4″ [375mm] |
| SF-SCT55-BK (55″) | 54-1/16″ [1373mm] | 14-3/4″ [375mm] |
Viewing area is the same across all configurations
The front viewing area dimensions are the same whether the appliance is installed single-sided, 2-sided corner, or 3-sided bay. The 3-sided configuration adds side viewing through the open side panels — the manual does not document separate side-panel viewing dimensions.
Installation Types
All six configurations supported by the Scion Trinity
The Scion Trinity supports six distinct installation configurations. The framing rough-in opening is identical for all built-in configurations. Configuration is determined by the trim selected and whether the flat side cover plates are removed or left in place.
| Configuration | Side Cover Plates | Trim Used | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single-Sided Built-In | Left in place on both sides | None on sides — wall sheathing covers | Standard front-viewing installation |
| 3-Sided Bay Built-In | Removed from both sides | 2″ or 1/2″ trim on both sides | Viewing through front and both sides |
| 2-Sided Right Corner | Left on left side; removed from right | 2″ or 1/2″ trim on right side only | Right side viewing; left side covered |
| 2-Sided Left Corner | Left on right side; removed from left | 2″ or 1/2″ trim on left side only | Left side viewing; right side covered |
| Wall Mount (Optional Kit) | Varies by finish intent | Optional wall mount kit required | Floating installation; no framing required |
| Wall Mount with Floating Mantel | Varies by finish intent | 2″ trim required for mantel kit | Total additional load max 100 lbs (45 kg) |
3-Sided Bay — How the Configuration Works
For the 3-sided bay installation, both flat side cover plates (which ship installed on the appliance) are removed. Either the 2-inch or 1/2-inch side trim included with the appliance is then installed on both sides. Finishing materials are brought right to the trim edge — no separate fascia is required because the Scion Trinity is designed for a clean-edge look without a visible trim surround.
The installation manual notes: the appliance does not have a fascia trim to cover exposed drywall edges. Drywall edging materials are recommended to achieve a clean edge between drywall and the appliance trim.
Insulation note for 3-sided and exterior wall installations
When installed in a recessed opening on an exterior wall in cooler climates, a chase may be required by local codes to accommodate insulation. Insulation and other loose materials must be secured to maintain air clearance between the appliance and the interior wall opening. This ensures proper air circulation to the room temperature sensor for thermostat function.
Trim & Side Framing Details
Framing requirements vary by trim selection — confirm before building side walls
2-Inch (51mm) Trim — For 2x4 Framing
The 2-inch trim is included with the appliance and is designed for use with 2x4 (51 x 102mm) framing and 1/2-inch (13mm) wall sheathing on the sides of the framed opening.
- Attach 2x4 framing members on the sides of the framed appliance opening.
- Secure side framing to the construction framing. Do not secure framing directly to the appliance.
- Finish with 1/2-inch (13mm) wall sheathing on the side framing members.
- If finishing material is not 1/2-inch thick: adjust framing material thickness to reach 2 inches total (framing + sheathing combined) on the appliance sides.
- The 2-inch trim is required when using the optional floating mantel wall-mount kit.
1/2-Inch (13mm) Trim — For Thinner Wall Conditions
The 1/2-inch trim is included with the appliance and is designed for use with 1/2-inch (13mm) wall sheathing directly, without additional 2x4 side framing.
- Secure wall sheathing to the construction framing. Do not screw wall sheathing directly to the appliance.
- If finishing material is not 1/2-inch thick: shimming may be required to obtain a flush finish with the trim.
Flat side cover plates — shipping protection
The flat side cover plates ship installed on the appliance. For single-sided and covered-side installations, leave them in place and apply wall sheathing over them. For 3-sided and 2-sided corner configurations, remove the plates on the open sides before installing the selected trim.
Clearance Requirements
Minimum clearance to combustible construction — all configurations
| Location | Minimum Clearance |
|---|---|
| Sides | 0 in. |
| Floor | 0 in. |
| Top | 0 in. |
| Back | 0 in. |
| Mantel | 0 in. |
| Mantel Depth | Unlimited |
| Front (to combustibles) | 36 in. (3 ft.) |
⚠️ Front Clearance — 36 Inches Required
Keep electrical cords, drapery, furnishings, bedding, clothing, and curtains at least 3 feet (0.9 m) from the front of the fireplace. This applies to all installation configurations. The 36-inch front clearance is to keep combustibles clear of the heat discharge area and does not restrict mantel placement or TV mounting directly above the appliance — mantel depth is unlimited and the top clearance to combustibles is 0 inches.
Clearances are identical across all configurations
The installation manual does not specify different clearance values for the 3-sided bay, 2-sided corner, or single-sided installations. The same clearance table applies to all built-in and wall-mount configurations.

Dedicated circuit — recommended, not required
The installation manual states: "A dedicated circuit is not required, but is preferred to prevent circuit breaker trips or fuse failure." Additional appliances on the same 15A circuit may exceed the circuit's current rating.
Hard-wire vs. plug-in
The Scion Trinity is designed to be hard-wired for 120V. A plug-in kit is also available for wall-mounted installations. All electrical connections must be performed by a qualified electrician. All wiring must be completed prior to finishing the unit.
Extension cords — avoid if possible
The installation manual advises avoiding extension cords as they may overheat. If an extension cord must be used, it must be No. 14 AWG minimum size, rated to not less than 1,875 watts.
