Why Choose the Breckwell Big E Pellet Stove?

140 lb hopper for multi-day unattended burns. Three full bags of PFI Premium grade hardwood pellets fill the hopper. At moderate heat level settings, the Big E runs two to four days between fills, supporting overnight and weekend operation without intervention. The Reset Trim function adjusts the low feed rate for pellet brand and quality variation.

5 heat settings plus optional thermostat automation. The Heat Level Advance control sets feed rate from 1 (low) through 5 (high). Connect an optional millivolt thermostat to the control board terminal block and the Big E switches between two automation modes: High/Low cycles between the active setting and low setting based on room temperature; On/Off shuts the stove down at setpoint and restarts at the last feed rate when the room cools.

Mobile home and transportable building approved. Certified under ASTM E1509-2022 and CAN/ULC S627:2023 for mobile home installation. The factory configuration accepts the required 2 inch outside air intake at the rear of the stove, 8 gauge chassis grounding, and 2-1/4 inch lag-bolt floor mounting through the rear of the stove. The Big E is rated for residential and mobile home installations.

Flexible venting through 3 inch or 4 inch PL-Vent pipe. Listed Type PL-Vent installation supports horizontal-through-wall, vertical-roof, vertical-into-existing-chimney, and conversion from an existing Class A 6 inch wood stove chimney. Class A chimney construction is not required. Tested with Simpson Duravent brand pipe.

Breckwell Big E Pellet Stove Installation Overview

The Breckwell Big E vents through 3 inch or 4 inch PL-Vent pipe, with vertical or horizontal-through-wall options and no Class A chimney requirement. Side wall clearance to the stove is 12 inches in a standard install or 1 inch in a corner install. Back wall to vertical exhaust is 3 inches; back wall to horizontal exhaust is 1 inch; wall to vent pipe is 3 inches. Minimum ceiling height is 60 inches. The stove sits on a continuous non-combustible floor protector with a minimum R1 insulative rating, extending 6 inches on each side and 6 inches in front of the stove. Mobile home installations require an outside air kit, 8 gauge chassis grounding, and 2-1/4 inch lag bolts through the rear of the stove. A 115V 60Hz 3A grounded electrical outlet with surge protector is required. Full clearances, venting options, and mobile home installation requirements are documented in the Big E Pellet Stove Size Guide.

FAQ – All Your Questions Answered

What size space does the Breckwell Big E heat?

The Big E delivers a tested heat range of 6,580 to 39,121 BTU per hour at 75 percent efficiency. With a 140 lb hopper and 5 heat settings, it is sized for medium-to-large open-plan main living areas. Manufacturer marketing materials describe heating coverage up to 2,200 square feet under favorable conditions. Actual heated area depends on insulation, ceiling height, layout, and climate zone.

Does the Big E work with a thermostat?

Yes. The control board accepts an optional millivolt thermostat (line-voltage thermostats are not compatible). Two modes are available: High/Low cycles the stove between the active Heat Level Advance setting and the number 1 low setting based on room temperature; On/Off shuts the stove down at setpoint and automatically restarts at the last feed rate when the room cools.

How long does a 140 lb hopper of pellets last?

The Big E burns pellets at 1 to 5.5 lbs per hour depending on heat level setting. With a full 140 lb hopper, run time ranges from roughly 25 hours at maximum (setting 5) to over 100 hours at the lowest sustained setting. Setting 5 is designed for temporary use only. Most owners run at settings 2 or 3 for normal heating.

Is the Big E approved for mobile homes?

Yes. The Big E is mobile home and transportable building approved under ASTM E1509-2022 and CAN/ULC S627:2023. Mobile home installation requires a 2 inch outside combustion air pipe at the rear inlet, 8 gauge copper chassis grounding, and 2-1/4 inch lag bolts through the rear of the stove. Do not install in a sleeping room.

What kind of pellets does the Big E burn?

PFI Premium grade hardwood pellets only, 1/4 inch or 5/16 inch in diameter and no longer than 1 inch. Pellets must meet the PFI standard: minimum 40 lbs density per cubic foot, minimum 8,200 BTU per pound, moisture under 8 percent, ash under 1 percent, and salt under 300 parts per million. Corn, biomass, and other fuels are not permitted.

What venting does the Big E require?

Listed Type PL-Vent in 3 inch or 4 inch diameter (tested with Simpson Duravent). Class A chimney is not required. The Big E vents horizontally through an exterior wall, vertically with a new chimney, vertically into an existing chimney via adapter, or into an existing 6 inch Class A chimney from a previous wood stove. All joints sealed with 500 degree Fahrenheit RTV silicone and UL-181-AP foil tape.

Does the Big E need electricity?

Yes. The Big E requires 115V 60Hz 3A grounded electrical power for the auger, blowers, igniter, and control board. A power surge protector is required. Do not connect to a GFCI socket. The stove will not operate during a power outage. A 6 foot grounded electrical cord extends from the rear of the stove.

What is the warranty on the Big E?

The Breckwell Limited Lifetime Warranty covers the firebox and heat exchanger for limited lifetime; door and firepot for three years; cabinets, trim, gaskets, all electrical components (blower, auger motor, PC board, switches), and ceramic glass for one year. Coverage is to the original retail purchaser only, requires authorized dealer purchase, and is valid only at the site of original installation.

What is your price match guarantee?

If you find a current lower advertised price from an authorized U.S. retailer on the same in-stock item, contact us before your purchase.
