The Breckwell SW500 is a compact non-catalytic wood stove engineered for off-grid operation. EPA 2020 certified at 75 percent efficiency and 1.7 g/hr particulate emissions, the SW500 delivers a tested heat range of 10,652 to 26,028 BTU per hour through secondary combustion managed by U-shaped stainless steel air tubes above the firebox. The 0.59 cubic foot firebox accepts cordwood up to 11 inches long; a 9.5 by 10.5 inch pyroceramic glass door with air wash system shows a full visible wood fire. A single manual slide damper rod controls burn rate from low to high. Connects to a 6 inch black or blued steel chimney into a UL 103 Type HT factory-built chimney or a 6 inch fireclay masonry flue, 12 foot minimum height. No electricity required for heat production. Mobile home approved. Outer dimensions 13 by 16.4 by 33.5 inches. Best for small homes, cabins, tiny houses, additions, and off-grid backup heat.

Why Choose the Breckwell SW500 Wood Stove?

Off-grid operation with no electrical dependency. The SW500 produces heat with zero electrical input. The optional B36T variable-speed blower is the only powered accessory; without it, heat distribution relies on natural convection and radiant transfer through the pyroceramic glass. This makes the SW500 a reliable backup heat source during power outages and a primary heater for off-grid cabins, hunting camps, and remote cottages.

Non-catalytic combustion with stainless secondary air tubes. Four U-shaped stainless steel air tubes above the firebox introduce preheated air to burn off remaining combustion gases, delivering 1.7 g/hr particulate emissions and 75 percent efficiency without a catalytic combustor. No catalyst to inspect, monitor, or replace over the life of the stove.

Compact 13 inch depth fits tight spaces. At 13 inches deep, 16.4 inches wide, and 33.5 inches tall on the pedestal base, the SW500 fits small homes, cabins, tiny houses, additions, and zone heating scenarios where a full-size wood stove will not. The 0.59 cubic foot firebox accepts cordwood up to 11 inches long; the 9.5 by 10.5 inch pyroceramic glass door shows a full visible wood fire.

Mobile home and transportable building approved. Certified under UL 1482-2022 and ULC-S627:2023 for mobile home installation. Mobile home installations require the 50FAK or 4FAK outside air kit, a UL 103 Type HT factory-built chimney with spark arrester, 8 gauge chassis grounding, and bolted floor mounting through the pedestal base. The SW500 is rated for residential and mobile home installations.

Breckwell SW500 Wood Stove Installation Overview

The Breckwell SW500 connects to a 6 inch black or blued steel chimney connector (2,100 degree Fahrenheit rated) into a UL 103 or CAN/ULC-S629 Type HT factory-built chimney or a masonry chimney with a 6 inch fireclay flue. Minimum total chimney height is 12 feet. No combustible material is permitted within 18 inches of the front of the unit, and minimum floor-to-ceiling height is 7 feet. The non-combustible floor protector (UL 1618 listed or equal, R-Value 2.8 minimum) extends 18 inches in front of the door, 8 inches on each side, and 2 inches at the rear. Mobile home installations require the 50FAK or 4FAK outside air kit, a spark arrester, 8 gauge chassis grounding, and 3/8 inch bolts through the pedestal floor mounting holes. Do not install in an alcove or in a factory-built fireplace. Full clearances, chimney options, and mobile home installation requirements are documented in the SW500 Wood Stove Size Guide.

FAQ – All Your Questions Answered

What size space will the SW500 heat?

The SW500 delivers a tested heat range of 10,652 to 26,028 BTU per hour at 75 percent efficiency. The 0.59 cubic foot firebox accepts cordwood up to 11 inches long. Manufacturer marketing materials describe efficient heating up to 750 square feet. Suited for small homes, cabins, tiny houses, additions, garages, and zone heating depending on insulation and climate.

Is the SW500 a catalytic wood stove?

No. The SW500 is non-catalytic. EPA 2020 certification at 1.7 g/hr emissions and 75 percent efficiency is achieved through secondary combustion managed by U-shaped stainless steel air tubes above the firebox. No catalytic combustor to inspect, monitor, or replace.

Does the SW500 need electricity?

No. The SW500 produces heat with zero electrical input. The optional B36T variable-speed blower is the only powered accessory and is not required for heat production. The blower circulates warm air from the firebox into the living area when installed.

What size logs fit in the SW500?

The SW500 firebox accepts cordwood up to 11 inches long. Firebox volume is 0.59 cubic feet, combustion chamber dimensions 11.25 by 8.5 inches. Burn only well-seasoned natural cordwood with moisture content below 20 percent (typically 9 to 15 months of seasoning under cover with airflow).

Is the SW500 approved for mobile homes?

Yes. The SW500 is mobile home and transportable building approved under UL 1482-2022 and ULC-S627:2023. Mobile home installation requires the 50FAK or 4FAK outside air kit, a UL 103 Type HT factory-built chimney with spark arrester, 8 gauge chassis grounding, and 3/8 inch bolts through the pedestal floor mounting holes. Do not install in a sleeping room.

What chimney does the SW500 need?

A 6 inch black or blued steel chimney connector (2,100 degree Fahrenheit rated) into either a UL 103 or CAN/ULC-S629 Type HT factory-built chimney or a masonry chimney with a 6 inch fireclay flue meeting NFPA 211. Minimum total chimney height is 12 feet. Maximum chimney connector run is 8 to 10 feet to ensure proper draft.

How do I control the burn rate on the SW500?

A single manual slide damper rod located under the hearth plate controls combustion air. Four positions: Low (damper fully closed), Medium (1/8 inch out), Medium-High (1/2 inch out), and High (rod fully out). Use lower settings for extended burns; higher settings for quick heat-up. Operating at high for extended periods can over-fire the stove.

What is the warranty on the SW500?

The Breckwell Limited Lifetime Warranty covers the firebox and heat exchanger for limited lifetime; door for three years; cabinets, trim, gaskets, all electrical components, and ceramic glass for one year. Coverage is to the original retail purchaser only, requires authorized dealer purchase, and is valid only at the site of original installation.

What is your price match guarantee?

We are confident in our pricing and offer a price match guarantee. If you find a current lower advertised price from an authorized U.S. retailer on the same in-stock item, contact us before your purchase. While we adhere to manufacturer pricing policies, we are committed to working with you to ensure you receive the best possible value.
