The Buck Stove Model 91 is a large catalytic wood stove with a 4.4 cubic foot firebox and a factory-installed variable-speed blower as standard equipment. Tested EPA output ranges from 10,400 to 62,745 BTU per hour at 79.5 percent efficiency (HHV) and 1.2 g/hr particulate emissions, covering homes from 1,800 to 3,200 square feet. The three-cell ceramic catalytic combustor ignites smoke at 700 to 900 degrees Fahrenheit, delivering high efficiency and the longest burn times in the Buck Stove wood-burning lineup. The firebox accepts logs up to 22 inches in either front-to-back or side-to-side orientation. An integrated ash pan simplifies ash removal. The Model 91 installs as either a masonry fireplace insert (minimum 31-3/4 W by 23-1/2 H by 15-1/2 D inches) using fireplace kit PA FP91, or as a freestanding stove with leg kit FA FS9151 or pedestal kit FA P4150B. Why Choose the Buck Stove Bay Series Model 91 Catalytic Stove?

Catalytic combustion delivers 1.2 g/hr emissions and longest burn times. The three-cell ceramic catalytic combustor ignites smoke at 700 to 900 degrees Fahrenheit, burning off particulates that would otherwise leave the chimney. Result: higher efficiency, lower emissions, and the longest sustainable low-burn cycles in the Buck Stove lineup, appropriate for overnight heating without reloading.

Heats up to 3,200 square feet, the largest Buck Stove wood stove. EPA tested heat output from 10,400 to 62,745 BTU per hour. The 4.4 cubic foot firebox accepts logs up to 22 inches in front-to-back or side-to-side orientation, supporting extended burn times on a single load. The largest heating envelope in the Buck Stove wood-burning lineup we carry.

Factory-installed variable-speed blower with automatic thermostat. The Model 91 ships with a factory-installed blower, rheostat speed control, and Automatic/Off/Manual switch. In Automatic mode, the internal thermostat activates the blower when the stove reaches operating temperature. The blower distributes heat to adjacent rooms through open architecture or doorways.

Installs as masonry fireplace insert or freestanding stove. Fits an existing masonry fireplace with minimum interior dimensions of 31-3/4 inches wide by 23-1/2 inches high by 15-1/2 inches deep using fireplace kit PA FP91. Alternatively installs freestanding with leg kit FA FS9151 or pedestal kit FA P4150B. The same stove serves both configurations.

Buck Stove Bay Series Model 91 Catalytic Stove Installation Overview

The Buck Stove Model 91 vents through an 8 inch flue into a UL 103 HT factory-built chimney or code-approved masonry chimney with a flue liner, minimum 15 foot chimney height. Freestanding clearances with single wall connector: side wall 24 inches, back wall 23 inches, corner 16 inches, collar to wall 26 inches. With double wall close-clearance pipe, these reduce to 14 inches side, 14 inches back, 12 inches corner, and 16 inches collar. Insert installation requires minimum fireplace dimensions of 31-3/4 inches wide by 23-1/2 inches high by 15-1/2 inches deep, with a 24 inch hearth extension in front and 8 inches each side. The Model 91 is not designed for mobile home installation and is not intended for installation into zero clearance or pre-fabricated fireplaces. Full clearance values, freestanding and insert installation diagrams, and the catalyst maintenance schedule are documented in the Model 91 Catalytic Stove Size Guide.

FAQ – All Your Questions Answered

What size space does the Buck Stove Model 91 heat?

The Buck Stove Model 91 catalytic heats 1,800 to 3,200 square feet, the largest heating range in the Buck Stove wood-burning lineup. Tested EPA output ranges from 10,400 to 62,745 BTU per hour. The 4.4 cubic foot firebox accepts logs up to 22 inches. Actual heated area depends on home insulation, ceiling height, layout, and climate zone.

Is the Model 91 catalytic?

Yes. The Model 91 uses a three-cell ceramic catalytic combustor (2 inch by 3-1/2 inch by 6 inch by 25 cells per cell) supplied by Applied Ceramics of Atlanta, Georgia. The catalyst ignites smoke at 700 to 900 degrees Fahrenheit, delivering 1.2 g/hr emissions and 79.5 percent HHV efficiency. An integrated catalyst monitor probe lets you verify operating temperature.

How long does the catalytic combustor last?

Catalytic combustors typically last 10,000 to 12,000 hours of operation. The Model 91 manual specifies visual inspection of the combustor at least three times per heating season. Signs of catalyst end-of-life include loss of heating efficiency, increased smoke, and inability to maintain temperatures above 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit. Replacement combustors are ordered from Applied Ceramics directly.

Does the Model 91 come with a blower?

Yes. The Model 91 ships with a factory-installed variable-speed blower as standard equipment. Controls include a rheostat for variable speed control and an Automatic/Off/Manual switch located behind the right cover door. In Automatic position, the internal thermostat activates the blower when the stove reaches operating temperature. Requires 115V AC outlet at the install location.

Can the Model 91 be installed as a fireplace insert?

Yes. The Model 91 installs as either a masonry fireplace insert or as a freestanding stove. For insert installation, the existing fireplace must meet minimum interior dimensions: 31-3/4 inches wide by 23-1/2 inches high by 15-1/2 inches deep. The insert installation uses fireplace kit PA FP91. The Model 91 is not intended for zero clearance or pre-fabricated fireplaces. For freestanding installation, use leg kit FA FS9151 or pedestal kit FA P4150B.

Is the Model 91 mobile home approved?

No. The Model 91 is not designed for installation in a mobile home per the owner's manual. For mobile home installation, choose the Buck Stove Model 21 non-catalytic, the only Buck Stove wood stove approved for mobile home installation.

What clearances does the Model 91 require?

Freestanding with single wall connector pipe: side wall 24 inches, back wall 23 inches, corner 16 inches, collar to wall 26 inches. With double wall close-clearance connector: side wall 14 inches, back wall 14 inches, corner 12 inches, collar to wall 16 inches. Floor protector is 3/8 inch minimum thickness non-combustible, 50 inches wide, extending 16 inches in front and 8 inches each side. Insert installation requires 24 inch hearth extension in front and 30 inch mantel clearance above.

What is the warranty on the Model 91?

Buck Stove Limited Warranty. Period I (year one) covers any part defective in materials or workmanship at no charge for parts. Period II (years two through five) covers the same parts excluding electrical motors, wiring, switches, components, accessories, and removable parts. Glass, refractory material, firebrick, and gaskets are never covered. The catalytic combustor is warranted separately by Applied Ceramics. Original retail purchaser only; non-transferable.

What is your price match guarantee?

We are confident in our pricing and offer a price match guarantee. If you find a current lower advertised price from an authorized U.S. retailer on the same in-stock item, contact us before your purchase. While we adhere to manufacturer pricing policies, we are committed to working with you to ensure you receive the best possible value.
