Why a blower matters
A wood stove blower mounts at the rear or base of the stove and pushes warm air horizontally into the room. Without a blower, heat radiates from the stove surfaces and convects upward, leaving adjacent rooms cooler than the room with the stove. With a blower running, warm air moves through doorways and open architecture into adjacent rooms, expanding the effective heated area. Forced-air distribution matters more on larger stoves and in larger floor plans.
Standard vs optional blower
On some stoves the blower ships standard (factory-installed at the manufacturer, included in the box). On others the blower is optional (sold separately, installed at setup). Buck Stove ships the Model 91 and Model 21 with factory blowers as standard. Empire Gateway models accept optional blowers (100 to 130 CFM depending on model). The Enerzone Solution Series and Harmony 2.3 accept optional blowers per the model.
CFM and variable speed
Blower performance is rated in CFM (cubic feet per minute of air moved). Higher CFM moves more warm air; lower CFM is quieter but distributes less. Variable speed control (a rheostat) lets you balance heat distribution against noise. An Auto/Off/Manual switch is standard on Buck Stove blowers: in Auto, an internal thermostat starts the blower when the stove reaches operating temperature and stops it when the stove cools down.
Models in this collection
Buck Stove Model 91 ships with a factory variable-speed blower with auto/off/manual switch, sized for the 4.4 cu ft firebox and large home heating.
Buck Stove Model 21 ships with a factory variable-speed blower as standard, sized for the compact 1.6 cu ft firebox.
FAQ
Do I need a blower for my wood stove? Strongly recommended on stoves larger than 2 cu ft firebox or in homes larger than 1,500 sq ft. Smaller stoves in single rooms can run without a blower, relying on radiant heat alone.
Does a wood stove blower need electricity? Yes. Wood stove blowers run on 115V AC; an electrical outlet is required at the install location. The stove itself still operates without the blower if power goes out, but the blower will not run.
Can I add a blower to a stove later? Yes, for most stoves. Empire Gateway accepts optional blowers; Enerzone Solution Series accepts optional blowers per the model. Verify the optional blower kit compatibility before purchase.
How loud are wood stove blowers? Variable-speed blowers are quiet at low settings and audible at maximum. Most owners run their blower at low-to-mid speed; high speed is reserved for cold mornings or when warming a cold home.
