The Construction Behind TrueFlame Grills
Every TrueFlame grill, griddle, side burner, and power burner is built from #304 stainless steel and carries the same Gold Standard Lifetime Warranty — lifetime non-prorated coverage on the stainless steel construction, main burners, cooking grates, burner covers, gas valves, Heat Zone Separators, temperature gauges, hood springs, and grill covers. Electrical components — LED bulbs, wire harness, switches, transformer, halogen interior light — are covered for 3 years. Effective for purchases on or after 3/1/23, registered at amddirect.com/register within 30 days of purchase.
The premium TF tier uses cast stainless steel main burners (14,000 BTU each) and a full LED control-panel package — halogen interior lighting, a full-length LED bar above the knobs, and individual red LEDs behind each knob that light when a burner is on. The 32″ TF32 and 40″ TF40 add a 10,000 BTU rear infrared back burner for rotisserie cooking. The TF tier installs with a 2″ non-combustible cutout clearance and a 1,000 CFM hood requirement.
The entry TFE tier delivers the same cooking footprint as TF at each shared size — TF25 and TFE25 share an identical 23¼″ × 8¼″ × 20¾″ cutout; TF32 and TFE32 share the 30¾″ × 8¼″ × 20¾″ cutout. TFE swaps cast burners for stainless tube burners, omits the LED package and rear burner, and requires a wider 4″ non-combustible clearance and a 1,200 CFM hood. The principal install advantage: TFE installs without a 120V outlet at the cutout — useful for remote patios or post-and-beam construction.
TrueFlame Lineup at a Glance
The TF Built-In Gas Grills page covers the premium tier — TF25 25″ (539 sq in, 3 main burners), TF32 32″ (716 sq in, 4 main burners + 10,000 BTU rear infrared), and TF40 40″ (892 sq in, 5 main burners + 10,000 BTU rear infrared) — each sold in natural gas and propane configurations. The TFE Built-In Gas Grills page covers the entry tier — TFE25 25″ (539 sq in, 3 main burners) and TFE32 32″ (716 sq in, 4 main burners) — at the same cutout footprint as the matching TF size.
The TFG30 Built-In Gas Griddle page covers the 30″ flat-top — 495 sq in of ½″ thick stainless cooking surface, two 18,000 BTU U-tube burners (36,000 BTU total), a Heat Zone Separator splitting the surface into two independent zones, and Sure-Strike ignition. The TFSB2 & TFPB Side and Power Burners page covers two companion builds: the TFSB2 Double Side Burner (24,000 BTU across twin brass-plated ring burners — sized for boiling and sautéing) and the TFPB Power Burner (60,000 BTU on a dual concentric ring burner with independent inner/outer ring control — sized for stir-fry, paella, and stockpot cooking, with wok grate and wind shield included).
The TrueFlame Grill and Griddle Carts page covers six cart variants — CART-TF-25DC, CART-TF-32DC, CART-TF-40DC, CART-TF-GRID30, plus the TFE-specific CART-TFE-25 and CART-TFE-32. Every cart is stainless steel with magnetic-latched doors, four casters (two locking), propane tank storage with cylinder lock-down, two foldable side shelves, and an interior paper towel holder. The grill or griddle drops into the cart and bolts down with two M5×10 fasteners — the same unit lifts out and drops into a built-in island cutout later if the patio gets an upgrade.
Installation: What to Know Before You Order
Built-in installations require a non-combustible enclosure (cement board with steel studs is the recommended construction). Side and rear clearance: 2″ on TF, TFG30, and side/power burners; 4″ on TFE from a non-combustible wall. From a protected combustible wall (non-combustible substrate over combustible material): 10″ on TF, 14″ on TFE. From an unprotected combustible wall: 14″ on TF, 18″ on TFE. Overhead clearance: 5 feet minimum from the cooking surface to any overhead construction. If installed under an exhaust hood: 1,000 CFM minimum on TF; 1,200 CFM on TFE, TFG30, and the burners.
Gas inlet pressures: natural gas 4.0″ W.C. (min 4.0″, max 7.0″); propane 11″ W.C. (min 10″, max 14″). Supply pipe ½″ minimum inside diameter. The NG regulator ships factory-set to 4.0″ W.C.; the LP regulator factory-set to 11″ W.C. (10″ W.C. on the TFG30 griddle). All TrueFlame products include an orifice conversion kit so the unit can be converted between NG and LP by a qualified gas technician. To share a single gas line between a TrueFlame grill and a side/power burner, install a 3/8″ threaded T-adapter on the supply line — one branch to the grill, one to the burner.
Cutout dimensions and full clearance envelopes are published in the dedicated size guides: TF size guide · TFE size guide · TFSB2 & TFPB size guide. The single-size TFG30 griddle and the cart accessory pages link to the comparison guide models section for size-pairing details.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between TrueFlame TF and TFE?
Both tiers use #304 stainless steel construction, share Piezo & Manual Flash Tube ignition, deliver 14,000 BTU per main burner, and carry the same Gold Standard Lifetime Warranty. TF adds cast stainless main burners (vs stainless tube on TFE), a 10,000 BTU rear infrared burner on the 32″ and 40″ sizes (TFE has no rear burner), a full LED control-panel package with halogen interior (TFE has no LED package), and tighter 2″ non-combustible clearances (TFE requires 4″). Cutout dimensions are identical at each shared size — the grills drop into the same rough opening. Pick TF for the lit control panel and rotisserie option; pick TFE for the same cooking footprint at a lower price point or installs where running electrical service to the cutout isn’t feasible.
Who makes TrueFlame grills?
TrueFlame is a brand of AMD Direct, the family-owned outdoor kitchen manufacturer in operation since the early 2000s. AMD Direct operates technical support from techsupport@amddirect.com and runs the TrueFlame warranty registration program at amddirect.com/register. The brand is sold through authorized BBQ specialty retailers and online dealers nationwide.
Can I install a TrueFlame grill on a freestanding cart instead of a built-in island?
Yes. Six cart variants pair with the TrueFlame lineup: CART-TF-25DC, CART-TF-32DC, and CART-TF-40DC for the premium TF tier; CART-TFE-25 and CART-TFE-32 for the entry TFE tier; CART-TF-GRID30 for the TFG30 griddle. Each cart is stainless steel with magnetic-latched doors, four casters (two locking), propane tank storage with cylinder lock-down hardware, and two foldable side shelves. The grill or griddle drops into the cart and bolts down with two removable M5×10 fasteners — the same unit lifts out and drops into a built-in cutout later if the patio gets an upgrade.
