Outdoor planter boxes, and where a box *beats* a pot

A planter box is bought for a different reason than a pot. It is chosen when the planting has to follow a line that already exists in the space, along a wall, a terrace edge, a boundary or a run of glazing, and when the alternative is building something in.

A box draws a line; a pot marks a point

The choice between a box and a round is not decoration. A box sits flush against a wall, aligns with a paving joint and repeats into a run without leaving gaps. A round planter cannot do any of those things, which is why boxes do the structural work on terraces, entrances and roof decks.

Sized by what goes in, not by what it looks like

Every size here publishes its interior length, width and depth as well as the exterior footprint, so the planting can be planned before the box arrives. The longer boxes are also the ones that take a hedge or a grass run rather than a single specimen, which is usually the reason a buyer wanted a box in the first place.

Light enough to place where concrete cannot go

These are hand-laid fiberglass composite, so a 60 in box weighs a fraction of the same shape in concrete. That is what makes a long box viable on a balcony, a podium deck or a suspended slab where the load is capped. Each size lists its own weight.

What is the difference between a planter box and a trough?

In practice, proportion. Both are rectangular, but a trough is long relative to its width and reads as a line, where a box is closer to square in plan and reads as an object. The per-size table gives length, width and height for every size, which settles it better than the name does.

How do I line several boxes up into a run?

Order the same model and size, and allow a consistent gap rather than butting them together. A visible, even gap reads as deliberate; boxes pushed tight together show every millimetre of variation. Because these are made to order, a run ordered at once will also share a production batch.

What fits inside a 48 inch box?

The interior is published for each size, and it is always smaller than the exterior by the wall thickness and the base. Read the interior length, width and depth on the size table rather than working from the outside measurement, and check the grow pot capacity listed alongside it.

Do large boxes ship by freight?

The larger ones do, and the shipping method is stated for every size so you know before checkout which applies. Freight means a delivery appointment and a kerbside handoff rather than a parcel to the door.

Can I get a custom length?

These are made to order, so ask. What we can quote depends on the mould the model is made from, which means some lengths are straightforward and others are not available at any price. Send the dimension you need and we will tell you which it is.
