Corry Cylinder Planter

Add drainage holes · free

Outdoor planters usually need drainage. Indoors, most people leave them sealed.

Which should I choose?

Why it matters
Rain and irrigation collect in a sealed planter with nowhere to go. In cold climates that water can freeze and expand, which may damage the planter. Standing water is also hard on most plants.

Do I need it?

  • Outdoors: almost always, especially anywhere that freezes.
  • Indoors: usually not. A sealed planter works as a cachepot or holds a nursery liner, which is what most people want on a floor they would rather keep dry.

What we do
Drilling is free and done before your planter ships, to the manufacturer's specification:

  • 1 to 2 inch holes every 12 inches of planter length.
  • For example, a 60 inch planter gets 4 to 5 holes.
  • If you prefer to drill your own later, use the same spacing. Holes outside these guidelines are not covered by the warranty.

One thing to know

  • Drilling cannot be undone, so a drilled planter is final sale.

Shipping & Delivery

Made to order
Each planter is hand-finished when you order it. Allow 3 to 5 business days of production before your order ships. Gloss finishes need 5 to 7.

Free ground shipping
This size ships free by ground within the contiguous 48 states. You will receive a tracking number by email the moment your order ships; delivery usually takes another 2 to 7 business days.

Returns
30 days from delivery, in new and unused condition in the original packaging, with a 30% restocking fee.

If it arrives damaged
Inspect the shipment before you sign. Note any damage on the bill of lading or delivery receipt before signing — to the boxes, the planter, or the packing material. A delivery that arrives visibly damaged or not intact may also be refused outright. You are entitled to open each box and inspect the goods; if the driver will not wait, write on the paperwork that you could not check for concealed damage. Report it to us in writing within 24 hours of delivery at customerservice@sereneyards.com, with photos of the damage, the cartons and the packing material, and keep all packaging until the claim is resolved. Damage noted at delivery and reported this way is covered — contact us and we'll make it right, either by replacing the planter or refunding you. Damage not noted at the time of delivery is much harder to resolve, because the carrier claim depends on that record. Full details are in our Shipping Policy.

Every Jay Scotts planter carries a three-year limited manufacturer warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, which applies whether or not an item is returnable.

The Corry is a fiberglass column sized by height rather than width. Two of its three sizes share the same ten-inch diameter and differ only in how far they rise. Choosing between them is a question of proportion, not planting. Both hold the same eight-inch pot.

That makes it useful where floor space is short and height is not. It marks a doorway, sets a rhythm along a walkway, or stands in a row of three as a screen with almost no depth. At its tallest the planting sits near eye level. An upright grass or a slim evergreen then reads as a vertical line rather than a pot with something in it.

The narrow base is the thing to plan around. All three sizes are light enough for one person to carry. But a tall column on a small footprint wants its final position chosen before anything top-heavy goes in, and in an exposed spot it wants weighting low.

Fiberglass is what keeps it movable at thirty-six inches. It is non-porous, so it does not take up the water that expands on freezing, and it will not rust or dent the way a metal column of this height would. Hand-finished to order in the color you choose.

A quiet column beside a door.

Built to last

Every piece we carry is chosen to last, indoors or out, and look considered for years, not seasons.

Built to last

Inside or out

Non-porous fiberglass with a UV-resistant finish: it does not absorb the water that expands on freezing, so it holds its shape through winter and its color through summer.

Height, not footprint

A column, not a pot

Straight walls run true from rim to base, so the Corry lifts a planting to eye level on a footprint barely wider than a floor tile.

Finished to order

Your color, your space

Each Corry is hand-finished in your chosen shade, so the color is specified to the space rather than chosen from what is in stock. The finish is an automotive-grade, UV-resistant paint system.

Finished in your color

Every planter is finished to order in the color you choose, then shipped to you.

Nineteen standard finishes, hand-finished to order in the color you choose. Custom colors are available on request. On-screen color is a guide and can vary slightly from the finished paint.

Questions, answered

Can the Corry be used indoors and outdoors?

Yes. It's premium fiberglass, non-porous and UV-resistant, so it does not absorb the water that expands on freezing and does not fade in full sun.

Drainage is what decides it in practice: water left standing in an undrained planter through a freeze is the common failure, not the material.

What size should I choose?

Corry sizes are the height: 20", 30", or 36". The 20" and 30" are 10" across with an 8" planting opening; the 36" is 12" across with a 10" opening. The walls are straight, so the opening is the full width of the planting space.

Does it come with drainage holes?

Not by default, so it can hold water or a liner. You can add drilled drainage on request; note a drilled planter is finished to order and non-returnable.

How heavy is it?

Fiberglass is light: about 8.8 lb (20"), 12.1 lb (30"), and 17.6 lb (36"), easy for one person to move.

Can I use it indoors?

Yes. The Corry works indoors or outdoors, from lobbies and living rooms to patios, pool decks, and rooftops.

How long until it ships?

Each planter is finished to order in your chosen color and ships in about three to five business days, or five to seven for gloss finishes, with free ground shipping on every size.

Do I have to fill a tall planter with soil all the way down?

No, and on a deep planter you should not. Some models carry an integrated internal ledge about 10 to 12 inches below the rim that holds a nursery pot, so the planting sits at the top and the depth below stays empty. A ledge weighs about 3 to 5 pounds and carries 75 to 100 pounds, and it is made for selected models at extra cost. Without one, lighten the base with empty plastic bottles or jugs. Avoid anything that breaks down, which encourages mold and bacteria.

What soil should I use?

Potting soil, potting mix or container mix only. Topsoil is heavy and gets heavier when wet, which puts outward pressure on the planter walls and compacts where a container mix stays open. Set the root ball one to three inches below the rim, water to settle it, and finish with a top dressing such as river rock or moss.
