Shipping & Delivery

Made to order
Each planter is hand-finished when you order it. Allow 5 to 10 business days of production before your order ships.

Free ground shipping
This size ships free by ground within the contiguous 48 states. You will receive a tracking number by email the moment your order ships; delivery usually takes another 2 to 7 business days.

Returns
30 days from delivery, in new and unused condition in the original packaging, with a 30% restocking fee and return shipping at your cost.

If it arrives damaged
Inspect the shipment before you sign. If it arrives visibly damaged or not intact, you may refuse it. If you accept it, note the damage on the bill of lading or delivery receipt before signing — to the boxes, the planter, or the packing material. You are entitled to open each box and inspect the goods; if the driver will not wait, write on the paperwork that you could not check for concealed damage. Report it to us in writing within 2 business days of delivery at customerservice@sereneyards.com, with photos of the damage, the cartons and the packing material, and keep all packaging until the claim is resolved. Damage noted at delivery and reported this way is covered — contact us and we'll make it right, either by replacing the planter or refunding you. Damage not noted at the time of delivery is much harder to resolve, because the carrier claim depends on that record. Full details are in our Shipping Policy.

Return & Refund Policy

At Serene Yards, we want you to be happy with your purchase.

Return Eligibility
Items must be new, unused, and in original packaging within 30 days of delivery. Drilled-drainage planters are final sale, because drilling is done to order and cannot be undone. This does not affect your rights if the planter arrives damaged or defective.

How to Initiate a Return
Contact us first! Email customerservice@sereneyards.com or call 888.254.6088 to get a Return Authorization (RA) number. Returns without an RA will not be accepted.

Return Costs

  • A 30% restocking fee applies to change-of-mind returns.
  • The customer is responsible for return shipping costs on change-of-mind returns.
  • For returns due to our error (damaged, defective, or incorrect item), we cover return shipping and waive the restocking fee.

Refunds
Refunds are issued to the original payment method within 7 business days of us receiving and inspecting your return.

The Rio Grande does not taper. The wall runs vertically from base to rim, so the diameter at the floor is the diameter at the top, and the shape has no direction to it at all.

That is what makes it a good planter to buy several of. A tapered pot has a front and a best angle, and a row of them reads as a collection. A cylinder presents the same profile from everywhere, so four down a path or a pair either side of an entrance read as rhythm rather than as objects arranged. The larger size is exactly as wide as it is tall, which removes the last bit of visual direction.

The straight wall pays off inside too. The opening is close to ninety percent of the outside diameter at every size, so a seventeen-inch nursery pot drops into a twenty-two-inch body, a twenty-four-inch into the thirty, and a root ball has the same room at the bottom as at the top. Three sizes. The eighteen and twenty-two are light enough for one person to move empty and ship by standard ground carrier; the thirty is a freight item and a considered placement. Non-porous, so it does not take up the water that expands on freezing, and hand-finished to order in the color you choose.

Rio Grande Cylinder Planter in the studio

Grounded and quiet, wherever it lands.

Built to last

Every piece we carry is chosen to last, indoors or out, and look considered for years, not seasons.

Built to last

Inside or out

Non-porous fiberglass with a UV-resistant finish: it does not absorb the water that expands on freezing, so it holds its shape through winter and its color through summer.

One clean diameter

A low, solid drum

Vertical walls hold a single diameter from base to rim, so it reads as a grounded cylinder rather than a tapered pot, and sits calmly in a row.

Finished to order

Your color, your space

Each Rio Grande is hand-finished in your chosen shade, so the color is specified to the space rather than chosen from what is in stock. The finish is an automotive-grade, UV-resistant paint system.

Finished in your color

Every planter is finished to order in the color you choose, then shipped to you.

Twenty standard finishes, hand-finished to order in the color you choose. Custom colors are available on request. On-screen color is a guide and can vary slightly from the finished paint.

Questions, answered

Can the Rio Grande be used indoors and outdoors?

Yes. It is premium fiberglass, non-porous and UV-resistant, so it does not absorb the water that expands on freezing and does not fade in full sun.

Drainage is what decides it in practice: water left standing in an undrained planter through a freeze is the common failure, not the material.

What size should I choose?

Two sizes: 18 inches wide by 20 tall, or 22 by 22, each a straight-sided cylinder with a full-width opening about 15.6 or 19.2 inches across. They weigh about 13.6 and 18.9 lb empty.

What is the cylinder shape best for?

It is a wide, straight-sided cylinder with a full-width round rim. The open mouth and generous volume, about 18.5 or 31.7 gallons, suit a full planting or a specimen that can spread over the straight rim.

What can I plant in it?

The wide, deep body suits a full mounding planting, a clipped shrub, or a small multi-stem tree. Use lightweight potting soil only, not garden soil, sand, or rocks.

Does it come with drainage holes?

Not by default, so it can hold a liner or double as a cachepot. You can add drilled drainage on request; note a drilled planter is finished to order and non-returnable.

How heavy is it?

Fiberglass is light for the size: about 13.6 lb for the 18 inch and 18.9 lb for the 22 inch, empty, so one person can move it before planting.
