Jay Scotts planters: the full range we carry

Serene Yards is an authorized Jay Scotts dealer. This is the full range we carry, in every size and finish the manufacturer produces. Everything here is the manufacturer's own product, made to order rather than picked from a warehouse of mixed stock.

What buying from an authorized dealer actually gets you

The phrase does less work than it should, so here is what it means in practice.

The product is the manufacturer's. Fiberglass planters are widely copied, and a copy of a Jay Scotts shape is not a Jay Scotts planter: different laminate schedule, different finish process, different wall thickness. Buying from a dealer means the model codes, the dimensions and the finish names are the manufacturer's own.

The warranty is real and it is theirs. Jay Scotts covers these with a three year manufacturer warranty. A warranty is only worth what the manufacturer will honour, which requires the unit to have come through their own channel.

Made to order, in one batch. Because these are produced per order rather than pulled from stock, a set ordered together is made in a single finish batch. That matters on any installation using more than two or three units, where planters assembled from stock of different ages can differ visibly in the same run.

How the range fits together

This is the part no individual product page can tell you, because it is a fact about the catalogue rather than about any one planter.

Corner units share a base code with their rectangular siblings. A corner planter and the rectangle it belongs with carry the same base number, the same height and the same wall profile, differing only in footprint. If you are wrapping a terrace edge and need the run to turn a corner without a visual break, that pairing is what you are looking for, and it is not obvious from either product page alone. Several models are corner units on a shared base.

Models come in size runs, not single sizes. Most rectangular models run 36, 48, 60 and 72 inches; round models run through several diameters. Specifying a scheme usually means picking a model and then choosing lengths, rather than picking planters individually.

Shape families behave predictably. Rectangles and troughs line up into runs. Tapered and round forms work as single statements and do not. Cubes and corner units close the ends of a run.

The specifications we publish and most sellers do not

For every size we list three numbers that decide whether a planter works, and which are usually absent from planter listings:

Interior dimensions. The usable opening through the rim, which is always smaller than the exterior and by more than people expect on a large piece. This is the number that decides whether a root ball goes in.

Grow pot capacity. Which standard nursery pot each size accepts, and how many on a longer trough. This is the practical figure for anyone dropping in pre-grown stock.

Packaged weight. The shipping weight including packaging, per size, which is what delivery planning and lift access actually need. It is not the product weight and not the planted weight, and confusing those is how installations go wrong.

Each size also states its own shipping mode, because the ground-versus-freight boundary falls between sizes of the same model rather than between models.

What we do not do

We are not the manufacturer. We do not control production schedules, we cannot alter a mould, and lead times are theirs rather than ours. What we can do is tell you accurately what exists and what it measures.

We do not offer custom shapes or bespoke colours. The range is the range. Custom fabrication is a conversation with the manufacturer, not with us.

We do not hold stock, and there is no showroom. Made to order means allow five to ten business days of production before anything ships, and it means you are buying from specifications and renders rather than from a display floor. That is the trade for getting a set produced in one batch, and it is why we publish dimensions in the detail we do.

We do not carry every Jay Scotts product. We carry the outdoor and indoor-outdoor planter range. Discontinued models are not listed, and where a size has been discontinued it is not sellable here.

Material, finish and delivery

Every planter is fiberglass composite, finished to order in one of twenty colours across matte, satin, gloss and metallic, with an automotive-grade, UV-resistant paint system. the material is non-porous and the finish is UV-resistant. Kept well drained, the material does not absorb water and so does not crack in freeze-thaw the way porous planters do.

Standard sizes ship free by ground within the contiguous United States. Larger units ship by freight at a flat 495 dollars, free on orders over 2,000 dollars. Ground orders can be returned within 30 days subject to a 30 percent restocking fee with return shipping paid by the customer; freight orders are final sale except where the item arrives defective or damaged. For freight, inspect before signing, note any damage on the delivery receipt, and report it in writing within two business days.

Drainage is drilled free of charge on request and is not drilled by default. Drilled planters are final sale.

Related collections

To browse by what the planter has to do rather than by model, the commercial and hospitality planters collection covers the specification-scale pieces at 36 inches and above.

Every planter here is fiberglass composite, which outdoor fiberglass planters covers as a material. All planters is the map if you would rather start from what you are trying to solve than from who made it.

Frequently asked questions

Is Serene Yards an authorized Jay Scotts dealer, and where else can I buy them?

Yes, we are an authorized dealer, and authorized dealers are the route. That matters for one concrete reason rather than as a badge: the three year manufacturer warranty depends on the unit having come through Jay Scotts' own channel, so a planter bought outside it may carry no warranty at all. What you get from a dealer is the manufacturer's own product with their model codes, finishes and specifications, unchanged.

How do I clean a Jay Scotts planter?

Both gloss and matte finishes clean with standard household products such as dishwashing soap. Avoid bleach solutions, power washing, steel wool and abrasives, all of which scratch the finish. On gloss, an annual polish with automotive or marine wax adds protection in exposed positions. Do not wax matte finishes unless the product is specifically formulated for them. The finish is an automotive-grade, UV-resistant paint system, which is exactly why the manufacturer rules out bleach, power washing, steel wool and abrasives: all of them scratch a top coat.

Are Jay Scotts planters good quality?

They are hand-laid fiberglass composite, finished to order with an automotive-grade, UV-resistant paint system designed to perform in demanding outdoor environments. the material is non-porous and the finish is UV-resistant, and because it is non-porous it does not absorb the water that expands on freezing and cracks porous materials. Jay Scotts backs each planter with a three year manufacturer warranty. They carry a three year manufacturer warranty.

What warranty do Jay Scotts planters have?

A three year manufacturer warranty from Jay Scotts. Because it is the manufacturer's warranty rather than a retailer's, it depends on the unit having come through their authorized channel, which is one of the practical reasons to buy from a dealer rather than a marketplace listing.

How long do Jay Scotts planters take to arrive?

They are made to order rather than picked from stock, so allow five to ten business days of production before the item ships, then transit on top. On a phased installation that production window is usually the constraint rather than transit, so it is worth building into the programme early. The upside is that a set ordered together is produced in one finish batch.

Do Jay Scotts planters come with drainage holes?

Not by default. We drill drainage free of charge on request, because a proportion of installations are interior, use a liner, or sit over a finished surface where free drainage is not wanted. Outdoors you almost always want it. Drilled planters are final sale, so decide before ordering.

What sizes do Jay Scotts planters come in?

Most rectangular models run 36, 48, 60 and 72 inches, with the longest piece we carry reaching 100 inches. Round models run through several diameters, and heights run from tabletop pieces up to 43 inches. Rather than a size label, check the published exterior and interior figures on each size, because two planters described the same way can differ by several inches of usable opening.

What is the difference between a Jay Scotts corner planter and a rectangular one?

They are siblings on a shared base code, with the same height and the same wall profile, differing only in footprint. The corner unit has a square footprint designed to turn a run through 90 degrees without a visual break, where the rectangle continues it in a straight line. Several of the models we carry are corner units on a shared base.

Can I get a custom size or colour?

Not through us. We carry the standard range, and the published sizes and finishes are the whole of what we can order.

Custom colour is available directly from Jay Scotts against their own terms: custom colour fees may apply and are non-refundable. A custom planter, meaning a new shape rather than a new colour, is subject to a minimum quantity and a product development and mould fee, and the resulting design remains Jay Scotts' property unless agreed otherwise in writing. Either route is a conversation with the manufacturer rather than with a dealer, because both involve tooling and production decisions a dealer does not control.

What we can do is tell you precisely what exists and what it measures.

Do you have a showroom?

No, and here is what replaces it. Every size has its exterior dimensions, interior opening and grow pot capacity published, so you specify against numbers rather than a memory of standing next to one. Every model is rendered in each finish it is offered in. Drainage is drilled to the manufacturer's specification free of charge, so the question you would normally ask a showroom is already settled. These are made to order rather than held in stock, which is why there is no display floor.
