Every Jay Scotts planter is finished to order in any of twenty colors. That means this collection is a filtered view of the range rather than a separate product line: the shapes here are the same shapes elsewhere on the site, shown in tall black.

The tall black planters finishes
MBK Matte Black, MCH Matte Charcoal. Black reads as the most architectural of the finishes. Against render, brick or planting it recedes, which is why it is the most specified color on commercial schemes.
Finish matters more than most people expect, because it changes how a form reads. A gloss on a large flat side picks up every reflection around it; a matte absorbs light and lets the silhouette do the work. On a curved planter a gloss or metallic moves across the surface, which is usually flattering. On a big cube it rarely is.
How the finish is applied
Nothing here is painted in advance. Each planter is finished to order with an automotive-grade paint system, which is the same class of coating used on a car body rather than a decorative spray. That is why the range can offer twenty colors across every shape without holding stock in each one, and why the lead time is what it is.
Jay Scotts describe the twenty as UV-resistant and rated to withstand sun exposure, all weather types and repeated use, and back the planters with a three year warranty. The one caution they give is about storage rather than use: a planter left in a wet or steamy carton, or standing in water, can be damaged on the finish before it is ever installed.
Choosing by color, and its limits
The color does not change the specification. Dimensions, interior openings and empty weights are identical whatever finish you choose. All of them are published on the specifications page.
Screens vary. In Jay Scotts' own words, several factors affect the way colors display on screen. Treat what you see here as a guide to the color and finish rather than an exact match, and ask us before committing to a scheme that has to match something precisely.
A custom match is available. If none of the twenty is right, Jay Scotts will match a custom color. Custom color orders are final sale.
What to decide first
Color is the last decision, not the first. Work out the form and the size against the position, then choose the finish — it is far easier to find the right color for the right planter than to find the right planter in a color you have already committed to. Start from the full range if you are still choosing a shape.
